The Clean Wave Foundation and Mantas from Costa Rica, together with the BuceoConCiencia initiative from Spain, will promote diving as a practice of environmental sustainability to encourage the conservation of the seas during November 4 and 5 in Islas Murciélago, canton of La Cruz, Province of Guanacaste.

According to Andrés Bermúdez, President of The Clean Wave, the initiative is possible thanks to the Maritime Rescue Center Association (CREMA), Mantas de Costa Rica and the BA Divers Diving Center. The CREMA Association is a Non-Governmental Organization dedicated to protecting, conserving and promoting ecosystem management of marine resources, formed in 2012.

For its part, Mantas de Costa Rica is a non-profit organization that seeks the protection of oceanic manta rays (Mobulabirostris) through monitoring and understanding. The Clean Wave Foundation joined this effort by creating an alliance to disseminate and present to the population the wonder of this species and its importance in the health of the oceans.

As Bermúdez explained, the community of “diving practitioners in the country is a good niche to promote sustainability in the seas, therefore, we wanted to convene this group to carry our message in favor of sustainability because generally these are people who They are imbued with that concept.”

For its part, BuceoConCiencia is a project created by the Spanish, MaibeHermoso, who completed a doctorate investigating the interest of divers in actively participating in science. In that study she realized that divers really wanted to be an active part of marine conservation, but they did not have the knowledge in marine biology, nor did they find a way to acquire it. That is why almost 3 years ago he founded BuceoConCiencia, a marine conservation academy for divers and sea lovers.

Witnessing of what happens underwater

“Diving places us in a privileged position as witnesses of what happens underwater; Therefore, we encourage divers to act accordingly by taking an active role in their protection. From our academy we teach about marine biology in online format, Consciousness Expeditions or international diving trips that focus on the recognition of the marine biodiversity of the places we visit,” explained Hermoso.

Islas Murciélago is a rocky archipelago in Guanacaste just west of Isla Colorada. It is a protected territory as part of the Santa Rosa National Park that has a diverse variety of fauna and marine life in an area regularly visited by tourists and divers.

Academic meeting

During the trip to Costa Rica, Hermoso will visit marine conservation projects in the country carrying out different activities. Apart from the diving tour to Murciélago Islands, on November 3 (4 p.m.) a talk titled “The Importance of Sharks in Marine Ecosystems” will be offered in the Auditorium of the School of Marine Biology of the University of Costa Rica (UCR). The meeting will have interpretation in LESCO language.

The Shark Tower page explains that the ocean ecosystem necessarily requires a good population of sharks because these large predators are responsible for regulating the food chain, providing the ecosystems with a balance necessary for their sustenance.

“The shark is the specimen in charge of maintaining the oceanic food chain, since it feeds on the most abundant species, generating a balance between the population levels of the different species that make up the ecosystems,” points out that digital source.

In addition, on November 10, at 2 p.m., another conference called “Diving as a tool for economic transformation in fishing areas” will be offered in the Pacific Marine Park of Puntarenas. Those who wish to know more details about both events in Murciélago Islands and San José can call Mantas Costa Rica at 6046 9363.

A bill seeks for the Limonense Creole language, known as Patois (or Patuá) to be classified as a Costa Rican regional language and obtain constitutional rank. The above, based on the reform of the Political Constitution carried out in 2015, which contemplates Costa Rica as a Multiethnic and Pluricultural country. The proposal, led by liberationist Rosaura Méndez, aims to give protection and promotion to Patuá because it is a minority language.

Revitalizing minority languages

“Costa Rica has been making efforts to revitalize the minority languages that survive in the country, placing emphasis on the native languages Bribri, Cabécar, Guaymí, Buglere and Guatuso, seeking policies to promote status in formal education and facilitating the existence of resources humans and teaching materials for their development,” the plan indicates.

“Evidently, Limonense Creole cannot be considered an indigenous language;  However, it is the minority language with the largest number of speakers, which remains excluded from the efforts and obligations of the State to guarantee its permanence,” he continued. This constitutional reform would force public administration and those programs related to native languages to seek their preservation and strengthening.

Thus, if the reform is approved, article 76 of the Magna Carta would be read as follows:

“Article 76- Spanish is the official language of the Nation.  However, the State will ensure the maintenance and cultivation of the national indigenous languages and the Limonense Creole.”

 Could it become extinct?

Méndez justified the presentation of this text because he considers that it is an endangered language. “As a defense mechanism, speakers of the Limón Creole language further relegate its use, with the consequent danger of extinction,” he noted.

“Another defense mechanism against stigmatization that some speakers of the Limón Creole language have adopted is to deny their Creole linguistic identity and maintain that it is a variant of English,” indicated the liberationist in the project.

The proposal also states that in countries such as Belize, Nicaragua and Jamaica there are creole languages that are part of the school curriculum, which does not happen in Costa Rica. The initiative is supported by 16 other congressmen from all factions that make up the Legislative Assembly.

B2B Sales: Building Relationships for Success

For B2B sales to succeed, connections are essential. Now let’s explore the tactics that turn B2B sales into an environment of trust, personalisation, and long-lasting relationships:

Understanding B2B Sales

In B2B sales, connections are crucial. Companies offer goods and services to other companies here. B2B sales processes usually include more decision-makers and longer sales cycles, making them more complicated. Usually, the main goal is to develop long-term relationships and trust. A proficient B2B salesperson must have a thorough understanding of their client’s requirements in order to tailor solutions to specifically address their problem areas.

Strategies for B2B Success

  • Deep Market Research: It’s critical in B2B sales to understand the industry, rivals, and particular difficulties your clients face. Thorough market research empowers sales representatives to provide customised solutions that appeal to prospective customers.
  • Relationship Nurturing: It takes time, but the work is worthwhile to establish trust. Maintaining long-term B2B partnerships requires attentive customer care, clear communication, and frequent follow-ups.
  • Customised Solutions: Every B2B customer is unique. A proficient salesperson must provide solutions that complement the objectives and difficulties of a customer. Trust and loyalty are built on this personalisation.
  • Educational Content: You may establish yourself as an expert in the field by offering insightful instructional information. Organising webinars, writing whitepapers, or providing educational blog entries may show off your knowledge and assist prospective customers in making wise judgments.
  • Scalable Solutions: B2B customers often seek solutions that are adaptable to their expanding company needs. Being able to grow and modify your products to satisfy their changing demands might be a powerful differentiator.

B2C Sales: Convenience and Emotion

Gaining the hearts and minds of individual customers is frequently the key to success in business-to-consumer sales. Here, we examine the critical roles that emotional appeal and convenience play in B2C sales:

Understanding B2C Sales

B2C sales, on the other hand, serve specific customers. Here, emotional appeals and impulsive purchases are often highlighted. Products and services are sold directly to consumers in the business-to-consumer (B2C) sector. In general, the sales process is transactional and shorter. It is essential to comprehend customer behaviour, preferences, and trends.

Strategies for B2C Success

  • Emotional Appeal: B2C customers base their purchases on their feelings. Having a strong personal connection with customers, using compelling storytelling, and having an effective brand may all have a significant impact on their choice to buy.
  • Convenience and Accessibility: Provide a simple and straightforward purchasing experience. Enhancing the entire customer experience may be achieved by providing a user-friendly website, responsive customer service, and different payment alternatives.
  • Leverage Data: To comprehend customer preferences and behaviour, use analytics and data. Product offers and marketing efforts may be customised using this information.
  • Content Marketing: In B2C sales, engaging content can be a very effective tool. Producing material for your blog, videos, and social media platforms that appeal to your target market may help you draw in new clients and strengthen brand loyalty.
  • Customer Feedback Integration: Proactively seek out and take into account customer input when making enhancements to your offerings. This demonstrates your appreciation for their feedback and your dedication to meeting their actual needs.

The Overlapping Strategies

Despite the differences between B2B and B2C sales, several tactics are similar and may be used in both:

Good Communication

Good communication is essential when interacting with both organisations and individual customers. In both situations, it’s critical to listen to customers, address their issues, and provide clear, concise information.

Value Proposition

In every sales situation, proving the worth of your item or service is crucial. The value proposition has to be obvious, whether it’s B2B (solving a company issue) or B2C (filling customer demands).

Adaptability

It’s critical to have the capacity to change with the market. Salespeople in both the B2B and B2C sectors must be aware of current market trends and flexible in their approach as needed.

Conclusion

Anyone hoping to succeed in the sales sector must comprehend the distinctions between B2B and B2C sales. Understanding these differences and putting the correct techniques into practice may make all the difference in attaining success, whether you’re looking to further your career in sales or are just getting started.

According to the United Nations, climate change is linked to 75% of extreme weather events;  91% of all deaths from meteorological hazards between 1970 and 2019 occurred in developing countries and it is expected that by 2030, there will be about 1.5 disasters of significant magnitude per day.

In this sense, the University of Costa Rica (UCR) with the project Management for risk reduction in threatened communities in the country, works with communities that suffer the onslaught of disasters, to prevent and reduce their risks.

Currently the project is working in the canton of Corredores in the communities of Central Campesina and Los Castaños, which have presented high socio-environmental risk such as floods, pests, inequality and impact from the monoculture of African palm.

According to Eleazar Morales Aguirre, professor at the School of Psychology and coordinator of the project, the activities were organized into three axes: community organization, promotion of mental health and strategic alliances.

In the field of organization, it focuses on training communities in disaster prevention management, with a more formal methodology but always maintaining recreational spaces “we have been applying the creation of risk maps that allows us, together with wisdom that these populations have on their territory, identify those areas of greatest risk,” declared Morales.

Identifying the origin of risk

Part of the work is to guide communities in identifying the origin of this risk, such as the impact of banana activity that created the canals and dikes, which made the area susceptible to flooding.

Within the field of mental health, opportunities for recreation, play and sports are provided, especially for the young population, boys and girls, older adults, as stated by MaríaÁngel Castro Ramírez, Psychology student and project assistant.  In the case of community leaders, the training is on psychological first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation without leaving aside the more recreational-informative spaces, Castro indicated.

Coordinator Morales highlighted strategic alliances as a third axis of work to generate an interinstitutional and multidisciplinary approach.  “Within the vulnerable communities, the feeling of abandonment on the part of the State institutions is very present, which only attends to the emergency occasionally but the populations are left without the possibility of fully recovering after an event.”

Psychological and social consequences

Among the psychosocial effects that a population can suffer due to an adverse event or disaster can be found: stress, uncertainty, anxiety, post-traumatic stress symptoms, human, material and economic losses, which means grief and an impact on their daily lives.

When the loss is collective, such as when a flood destroys a bridge, there is also a social and economic impact.

Education is an element that is severely affected by disasters and emergencies in the canton, as highlighted by YeseniaFernández Matamoros, a teacher at the Los Castaños Single-teacher School, who pointed out how in the pandemic and during the floods, students suffer significant delays in Educative development.

Another structural cause

Inequality, together with disorganization and lack of preparation, deepens the impact of any adverse event on populations and on the other hand, once the disaster has occurred, it increases inequality.  However, Morales highlighted as an important achievement, a product of the project’s work, the creation of the 1st Communal Emergency Committee in which seven communities surrounding Central Campesina and Los Castaños were organized to form this organization, which is a formal part of the System. National Risk Management and began dialogue with various local organizations to prevent and manage disasters and emergencies.

Citizens of Panama, Honduras and Costa Rica left Israel this Friday on a humanitarian flight bound for Greece, the Panamanian Government reported. These are 15 Panamanians, 9 Costa Ricans and 7 Hondurans, said the Foreign Ministry of Panama, which specified that this humanitarian flight, “in a gesture of cooperation with Central American citizens in need” of the transfer, departed from Tel Aviv International Airport to destination final Greece.

The Foreign Office added that “48 Panamanians have decided to remain in the State of Israel,” where 135 citizens of this country had registered as residents, according to official data.

This Friday’s flight is in addition to a first humanitarian flight that left Israel on Thursday with 37 Central Americans on board, said the Foreign Ministry, which specified that more than 20 Panamanian citizens have left that country “by their own means.”

104 Ticos leaving

For its part, the Costa Rican Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported on Thursday that it was providing consular attention to Costa Ricans who were visiting Israel when the Hamas attacks occurred last Saturday, and that 104 of them had resumed their itineraries to Costa Rica. when traveling to various cities in Europe, by air, or through Jordan, by land.

He also indicated that on the same Thursday and thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Foreign Ministry, 3 Costa Rican tourists, including an elderly adult, traveled to Madrid, from where they resumed their flight back to Costa Rica.

Critical situation

The number of Israeli fatalities due to the surprise attack that the Islamist organization Hamas launched last Saturday has risen to 1,400, according to what Hebrew media said this Friday citing health sources, while the number of deaths in Gaza caused by the Israeli bombings is currently at the 1,800.

Both Israel and Hamas are committing war crimes, the former by blocking the entry of all types of supplies into Gaza, including water and food, and the latter by the summary execution and abduction of civilians, the UN said Friday.

The post Eco-Spirituality is the New Way of Relating to Nature appeared first on The Costa Rica News.

Ecospirituality is the alternative to the instrumental exploitation of nature, according to research.  It has nothing to do with religions, politics or environmentalism: it expresses amazement at nature, considered something sacred that must be respected, and assumes citizen commitments by voting for environmentally responsible parties.

Research from the University of British Columbia, in Canada, has discovered that moral concern for nature illuminates what it calls eco-spirituality.It defines ecospirituality as the appreciation and experimentation of the spiritual qualities that are present in nature.

Ecospirituality understood in this way emphasizes the connection with nature, either by virtue of our dependence on it, or as the connection that each person can experience when contemplating a sunset, a butterfly or the beauty of the sea.

At the same time, ecospirituality attributes anthropomorphic qualities to nature that facilitate the evaluation of nature as a social entity with which one can have a connection.

Present in society

This is not something merely abstract: there are already legal regulations at a global level that recognize or grant nature or certain ecosystems the status of legal entity, in order to protect and conserve them, considering the planet, already as a living being, or as a heritage that must be respected.

Both approaches, both the connection with nature and what we can think about it, do not necessarily lead to a kind of spirituality, the authors of the new research recognize, but their main contribution consists, precisely, in having discovered that ecospirituality can be measured and that it is much more present in society than one might generally think.

They assume that a kind of eco-spirituality is part of ancient human traditions, and cite as an example the conceptions of indigenous animists, such as the belief of the Kutenai Amerindian tribe of North America, that the Spirit of the Grizzly Bear resides in the Rocky Mountains.

Also citing as examples the groves considered sacred in some Hindu traditions, or the outdoor experience of holiness and spiritual renewal invoked by American transcendentalists who influenced the environmental movement.

Alternative conceptions

This research has delved into the study of the connection with nature that many cultures have experienced over time as something essentially spiritual, a field of knowledge that until now had been little analyzed.

More specifically, it investigated the relationship between ecospirituality and moral concern for nature, considering that, if the environmental crisis of our time is in part a consequence of our conception of nature as an instrumental good, it is increasingly important to explore alternative conceptions that contribute to its conservation.

To investigate this relationship between the growing concern for nature and ecospirituality, the authors of this study, of which Matthew Billet is the first author, developed and validated a system to measure the ecospirituality index present in the population, either consciously or unconscious.

This measure of ecospirituality is not committed to any cultural or religious tradition and its purpose is to reflect the psychological core that is present in people when they think, reason and experience the spiritual (non-material) qualities of nature.

Questionnaire to 6,000 people

The measure of ecospirituality is based on a questionnaire administered to 6,000 people in Canada, the United States and Singapore, who were asked whether they agreed with eight statements such as, for example, “I feel an intense wonder toward nature” or “there is a spiritual connection between human beings and the natural environment”.

This questionnaire allowed us to establish that ecospirituality is closely related to spirituality, pro-environmental attitudes and the environmental identity of people, regardless of their origin or culture.

It also established that ecospirituality does not have much to do with religious beliefs or environmentalist behaviors and that it has nothing to do (it is practically not present) with consumerist people, their political ideologies or their preferences regarding certain environmental political options.

 Especially feminine

Furthermore, ecospirituality manifests itself clearly in people who are naturally kind and sociable, and emerges deeply related to identification as a woman. This means that ecospirituality is a way of being that is widely present in today’s society, regardless of people’s attitudes or environmental identities, that is, it is not something exclusive or essential to environmentalism, for example.

Also that ecospirituality is rather something implicit in ethics that leads people to assume that nature is something sacred that must be respected, as well as to establish an ethical code of conduct in their relationship with nature.

This behavior is already reflected in decisions that involve compensation between nature and the economy (such as carbon credits), as well as in the citizen commitment to vote for political parties that assume the protection and preservation of nature in their programs.

While most of us expect a move abroad to be a transformative experience, moving back is rarely seen as a potential challenge.  But it can be, and it’s best to be prepared.  Make as much effort to return home as you did abroad: do your research, perfect your language, get in touch with the local community and prepare to grow personally.

These steps can take different forms:

Read local news and books in your native language

Few things absorb the culture of a place as much as the written word.  Start reading newspapers, books and magazines in your native language, stay up to date with current events and expand your vocabulary.  This can help you get a “feel” for where you come from more quickly and provide you with easy topics of conversation with colleagues, friends and family.

Watch TV and movies

To “get used” to the sound and rhythm of your native language again, you can watch television and movies.  This will also help you improve your cultural understanding of your home country while keeping you entertained and distracted from the challenges of this transition period.

Start conversations

Reverse culture shock often leads to self-induced isolation.  One way to combat it is to start conversations with the people in your country.  Make it a routine to talk to someone every day and try to learn what life is like in your country through the personal experiences of your interlocutors.

Write your thoughts

Keep a journal or start a blog in your native language.  Writing regularly can not only help you regain language fluency more quickly, but it can also serve as a roadmap for the thoughts and feelings you’ve had since your return.  This can be very helpful when making the decision to move or stay.

Participate in a language exchange program or cultural workshop

Help yourself by helping others.  As you try to readjust to your life at home, some expats are newcomers to your country and you may feel as lost and insecure as you did when you left home.  Helping them in their new life in a place you call home can also bring you closer to truly feeling at home.

Seek support in the local community

When experiencing reverse culture shock, your first instinct may be to run away from social interactions, close off from family and friends, and be left alone with your thoughts.  But you may feel better if you surround yourself with people who have your interests in mind.  Whether it’s friends, family, or professional support communities, readjusting to your new “old” life is often better in good company.

Enroll in a language review course

If you have spent a lot of time abroad and are having trouble conveying your ideas effectively in your native language, a short language refresher course may be a good starting point.  In addition to regaining fluency in your native language, you will have extra time to readjust and possibly make new friends.

Students from Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Panama, Suriname, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic participated in technological and soft skills training.

After a week of technological training and with significant female participation, the Huawei Technologies Seeds for the Future 2023 program concluded in Costa Rica. Here 92 technological career students from 10 countries in Central America and the Caribbean lived an experience of cultural exchange, under the axes of promoting technology, innovation and environmental protection.

The ninth edition of the Semillaspara el Futuro program culminated with an award ceremony for the students of the 10 participating delegations, last Monday, October 16, at the Crown Plaza Corobicí hotel, located in La Sabana.

Seeds for the Future

Huawei’s flagship Global CSR program has been operating for 15 years and, locally, has been implemented since 2015 in the Central American and Caribbean region.

This initiative selects outstanding students to experience a technological and cultural experience. The young people are accompanied by experts from the regional technology sector.

During eight days of camp, the delegations from Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Suriname and Venezuela; They were trained by Incae.

They received technological immersions, resolution and innovation tests, soft skills workshops, as well as visits to the Café Britt operations plant and a tour of points on the Costa Rican Pacific coast.

 Increase in female participation

Hand in hand with the “Tech4Good” project, students had the opportunity to put into practice their acquired knowledge and delve deeper into the innovations provided by technology. The delegations had to address the social and environmental problems of their countries of origin.

Part of Huawei’s efforts is to reduce gender gaps and promote greater female participation in this type of intercultural meetings, where technology and environmental protection are the main axes.

Currently, female participation in the Semillaspara el Futuro Central America and the Caribbean program rose to 44%, well above the 15% that was managed in the first editions of the initiative.

This is the case of Zoe Vega, representative of the Costa Rican delegation and student at the Universidad Latina, who highlights her experience in the program, through which she experienced an environment of inclusion and learning aimed at women in the area of technology.

How women grow in the technological field

“This is a reflection of how women grow in the technological field. We have received courses from both Incae and Huawei and this helps us enormously in the workplace. So I firmly believe that, with the project, it makes us more complete people,” said the student.

“Many times young people are not given the opportunity and space. This is driving us to give our ideas, as professionals of the future that we are, which motivates us to think about projects that can solve the problems of this society,” Vega added.

Green Macaw Protection

At the same time as the award to the students, the Huawei firm launched the “Huawei TECH4ALL in Costa Rica” project together with the National System of Conservation Areas (Sinac), for the protection of the green macaw populations in the country, being on the list of endangered species.

The technology consists of installing radios in waterproof boxes, which are placed in trees at a height of 20 meters, in order to monitor the behavior and increase in the population of these bird species. The system is synchronized using the RB1 Radio phone application.

“The opportunity that Huawei currently gives us to coordinate with the organizations that are already making efforts, in a timely manner, helps us with the latest generation technology, artificial intelligence and using sensors such as audiobots, which will allow us to collect information. .of limpets and other species,” said Mario Coto, director of Sinac.

Andrés González, Sinac Conservation Areas biologist, stated that through the initiative they are covering more than 1,500 kilometers. He explains that the devices are collected six months after their placement, from which they obtain information that is “difficult to record with traditional field equipment.”

“The green macaw, being the second largest psittacine on the planet, in Costa Rica we have the opportunity to protect it and get it off that list of endangered species, well, it becomes a great opportunity,” stressed Coto.

Cultural exchange

In addition to training in innovation and technology, students from Costa Rica and El Salvador highlight the intercultural experience of this regional program.Kevin Hernández, representative of the Salvadoran delegation and a graduate in Computer Science, defined the experience as “extraordinary” in the academic field and as a cultural exchange.

“For me it was the first time, meeting people from other countries. The opportunity to discover solutions to contribute in different regions is valuable. I take with me the experience, the friendships and the knowledge to apply in the future in my country El Salvador,” said Hernández.

“It is a great opportunity to expand our minds, by being in our country we learn, but these opportunities for cultural exchange make us see that there are solutions and opportunities beyond what we do and that there are companies that are committed to young people and technology” , he added.

Fernando Figueroa, a Salvadoran student studying Computer Engineering, highlighted that the program allowed the delegations to leave their comfort zone, based on the activities and tours developed during the Incae training.

“Not only did I learn from Huawei, but I also learned from the people I met about 3 or 4 days ago and with whom I managed to get along very well. Meeting people from Costa Rica, Panama and Honduras, all those experiences have taught me something valuable, which will probably remain marked in my life forever,” said Figueroa.

For his part, Alex Agüero, from the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (TEC) in the Electronic Engineering degree, stated that the program helped him in the field of innovation and technology. This through training tools for the generation of ideas and solutions to various problems, including soft skills.“We had a good taste in our mouths, because all of us who participated from Costa Rica did our part and in the end we gave our best in this week of training”.

Likewise, we also learned about different cultures from Central America and the Caribbean, which is very important, to develop not only technical skills, but also soft skills that are so necessary in our country,” declared the TEC student.

“We believe that we can contribute greatly to local communities by working hand in hand with our clients, partners and stakeholders since we all share the same vision of wanting to promote the digital transformation of our region, to achieve this the most important thing is to invest in talent, training future generations with technical skills and business tools is the most important step we have identified to build a robust ecosystem,” emphasized Daniel Ding, vice president of Huawei Central America and the Caribbean.
